Every piece has its own story: from quirky everyday pendants to extravagant engagement rings, we asked our clients to tell us about their personal journey from sketch to finish.
Jesse & Priyata
How did you two meet?
We met in law school at the party of a mutual friend.
Can you share your proposal story?
My wife loves to be surprised, but at the same time wants to know everything. So, surprising her is always a challenge. I decided early on that I wanted to propose to her back in her hometown in Indiana, so when she decided that we would go visit her family for a weekend in October, I knew I had my chance. Since it was a matter of when, not if, I would propose, I told my wife that during that weekend I would talk to her parents and ask for their blessing. In reality, I had that conversation via phone about a month prior to the proposal. I was also able to have both her siblings to come home the same weekend.
In my wife's hometown, there is a beautiful bike path that cuts through parks, over rivers, and at one point leads to the local brewery, which is a family favorite spot. Weeks before the trip, we made plans with her siblings to spend some time at the brewery on Saturday and enjoy the nice fall weather. Around noon that day, each of her family members came up with a reason they would be a bit delayed and would meet us at the brewery later. Her sister had midterms the next week and needed to finish up studying. Her mother did not always come to the brewery, and said she had some errands to run. Her father said he preferred to wait to go until a bit later. Her brother said...that he had to do reading for his college classes (which, since he was a senior in college and already accepted to several law schools, my wife did not totally buy). We then together shrugged our shoulders and got ready to walk over.
Together, my wife and I headed off to the brewery along the bike path. Walking along the path, as we crossed over the river, I stopped her and told her how much I loved her and her family, her sense of humor, and her intelligence. I told her how I loved her despite her messy nature and because of her unique personality. Then, I asked her to marry me, and she said yes!
After a few minutes for us to celebrate privately, we called my family who were waiting by the phone and celebrated with them. We then continued our walk to the brewery, where we met up with her family and continued the engagement celebrations.
Can you share a fun fact about you as a couple?
My wife returned the proposal to me by "reproposing" via the megatron at Yankee Stadium during a playoff game a month after I proposed.
Was your wife involved in the design of the ring, or was it a surprise?
It was a surprise!
Did your significant other drop hints about what you were looking for in an engagement ring? If so, how?
My wife tried to give me hints about what she would want, but every hint she gave conflicted with all the previous ones. So, I had to dig through all of the hints to get the guidance I needed.
Are there any details included in the piece that have personal meaning, such as heirloom diamonds, birthstones, engravings, or initials?
Emerald is my wife's birthstone.
Notes from the Designer
The quality of Jesse and Priyata's emerald is one-of-a-kind exceptional, and that's why we set it in an elegant yellow gold solitaire setting. Look how it sings on her finger! She added a beautiful emerald band to complete the set (view her picture gallery to see it).
